Beech Mountain, Moss and Sun, 15" x 15"

Hiking on a sunny day with the sun peeking through the trees, it hits the moss and it seems illuminated from within. The sun also creates the ebbs and flows of the shapes of decay and rocks that live under the moss. I was interested in the shapes the light and shadow offered. I was so intent on those shapes, I didn’t notice the shape of a fallen tree under the moss until I finished the painting.
