Climbing to the top of Beech Mountain gives a bird's eye view of most of the island (thus the fire tower). When I am hiking, a view opens of western most side of Mount Desert Island, seeing Long pond then on to Blue Hill Bay.  There is an illusion of stained-glass windows when looking up from below with the sky peeking through the open branches the stand of pines and steel structure of the fire tower.
