Secret perch on Echo 10” x 10”, acrylic paint over garden burlap on birch panel

I went to an exhibition of Emily Carr. who was a Vancouver, BC artist I was struck by the surfaces she painted on. She used whatever was easily accessible. She was even known to used gasoline as a painting medium! She used canvas boards, cardboard and handmade hemp paper and even a very rough texture burlap canvas made of jute. I was struck by the by how the texture of the surfaces she painted on affected her subject matter. I decided to try a few of my own.
